Spotlight with Boogie Moli
David Moli, or Boogie Moli as he is most well known, is a Manchester-based graffiti artist. Boogie was a semi-professional footballer for Liverpool in his youth and shared an apartment with Raheem Sterling. Due to the injuries he incurred while playing football Dave retired early. He was able to pursue a career in the arts after hanging up his footy boots, following in the footsteps of one of his artistic heroes, Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Boogie has presented commissioned artwork for world-class athletes such as Raheem Sterling, Deontay Wilder, Luke Shaw, Andre Gray and Lewis Hamilton.
He employs a variety of mediums, including wheat paste to adhere paper to the canvas, acrylic paint, and spray paint. Each concept takes on a life of its own.
Boogie is inspired by one of the most intriguing artists in modern contemporary history – Richard Hambleton and his infamous Shadowmen. Boogie, on the other hand, has opted to focus on the ballerina rather than Hambleton's mysterious and startling shapes. Boogie portrays the duality of melancholy and grace in the distinctive dance genre. His ballerinas are striking and manage to echo the iconic graffiti symbols from art history.
