Sonia Delaunay

Sonia Delaunay was a Ukrainian-born French artist and designer known for her bold use of coluorful geometric patterns. She was a multi-disciplinary abstract artist and key figure in the Parisian avant-garde. Alongside her husband, Robert Delaunay, she pioneered the movement Simultanism. Her exploration of the interaction between colours has created a sense of depth and movement throughout her oeuvre.

In 1964, Delaunay became the first living female artist to have a retrospective at the Louvre Museum. She died on December 5, 1979 in Paris, France at the age of 94.
