Patrick Heron was at the forefront of English twentieth-century abstract art. He described his exploration of vibrant colour as “non-figurative” and believed that all art could be considered abstract.

Patrick Heron made use of numerous media including etching, lithography and screen printing to create a small body of printed work throughout his career. His earlier prints were most often silkscreen prints produced from gouache drawings.
